The Rural Rivers Project Flood Response and Recovery Survey focuses on flood response and recovery in Vermont over the last 20 years. This anonymous survey seeks to improve understanding of how flooding has impacted and continues to impact communities across Vermont. Anyone who lived in, traveled to, or was connected to someone in Vermont during a period of flooding is eligible to complete the survey.
The survey takes approximately 6-9 minutes to complete, and participation is voluntary. Any information shared will remain anonymous. Respondents may skip any question except the initial age-verification (data about minors is not collected).
The survey is part of a research study led by Dr. Charis Boke, Dr. Sarah Kelly, and Aletha Spang, at Dartmouth College. It is funded by the National Science Foundation's Senior Cultural Anthropology Award and the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR, Award #2446303). The research team is studying the social, ecological, and technological challenges around, and responses to, catastrophic flooding in Vermont. The research team is also interested to hear more, if respondents would like to extend participation in the research project. Those with photos, videos, or stories to share may add their contact information at the end of the survey. This contact information WILL NOT BE saved with survey information - respondent survey data will remain anonymized. The survey closes on December 1st, 2026.
