Hairless Dogs and the Andean Afterlife

Anthropology Research Associate and Postdoctoral Fellow (EEES) Weronika Tomczyk is featured in an article in National Geographic.

Weronika Tomczyk spoke to National Geographic about her research finding and analyzing the mummified remains of Peruvian hairless dogs at the site of Peru's first great empire.  "If dogs are buried in close association with humans, there must have been some kind of bond," says Tomczyk.  The find suggests that the pre-Inca Wari society may have chosen these dogs to guide important people into the afterlife.  Read the article here.
